Autumn in New Haven

It's been really beautiful here this month. Unfortunately we don't really know how to take pictures but here's a little glimpse of our neighborhood in November.

Whitney's walk to work....

Along Prospect Street....

The local dog park--pretty fancy!

Behind our apartment - Sameer gets a great view of this tree from his office window.

Our collection from the walk home....

Hey Guys its anthony burton, I tried to get a hold of you on this thing a week ago but I do not know where they posted my stuff. I hope you two are doing well, and are loving the triune God more every single day.

Thanks Tony! It's good to hear from you. We ARE doing well, and the longer we live, the more we realize what a tremendously complex thing it is to love our God in a way that is appropriate to his self-revelation in Jesus and the community he inaugurated.

Hey Sameer, Have you read Trinitarian Soundings in Systematic theology edited by Paul Louis Metzger. The editor is one of my profs. and he really has some great trinitarian perspectives on how the community life in the church is a reflection of God's activity within the Godhead. If you do not have time to get the book, I should at least get you guys in contact...he is probably one of the biggest activists here in Portland among evangelicals. I feel like I'm overstepping my grounds, but I feel like you and him might really benifit from talking to each other, or just to know that there are people who believe what you do and are actually doing something about it

peace,

Tony

Thanks Tony! I haven't read any of Metzger's stuff. However, the connection between intertrinitarian community and ecclesial community sounds similar to a book written by my adviser here - Miroslav Volf. I am actually so weighed down with coursework and doctoral applications right now that I don't even have any time to be studying any of the things that I want to be working on, so I don't think I'd be able to keep up a meaningful correspondence with Paul until January. But it sounds like he would be a very engaging person to connect with, so maybe you could remind me about him after New Year sometime! Portland's a cool city -- how's it going there? - s

Portland's neat, I just don't know how to apply the gospel to this city. Jesus hung out with prostitutes, and there are a lot here. I just feel that we need to go down to them, rather than expect that they will go up to us. The people in Portland who are desperate would probably not feel comfortable in any of our affluent churches. I just drove around the city Saturday night wondering how to reach out. I understand about not having any time, Dr. Metzger does not either. Volf's essay "The trinity and the Church" is chapter 13 in the book, I haven't read that yet. Oh, Marissa came to Christ, she is new in Jesus. God hears and is working. True Dat'

God bless
