weight gain, oh my!

Last week at Noah's one month appointment he was 9 pounds 11 ounces and 23 inches long. (up from 7 lb. 12 oz. and 21.5 inches at birth)

I don't remember the percentile but he is really long for his age according to the doctor!

Today I took him to the doctor for something else and he weighed in at 10 pounds 9 ounces. So he gained almost another pound in 8 days! What in the world?!? I thought he felt heavy, but WOW.

If you do the math, that is A LOT more than the average half ounce to ounce per day, right?

He has obviously been going through another growth spurt (it seems like his whole life has been a growth spurt!) so he is feeding quite often but I think he has been a little less fussy. We're trying a variety of things to help him and I'm not sure which one is working so we'll just keep doing it all!

It also helps that he enjoys playing more so he actually has some awake time now that does not involve crying or eating. When he is on his play mat looking at his toys he makes the CUTEST noises and we have been trying for a couple of weeks to catch it on video but haven't been able to get a good clip. He'll "talk" the second after I turn the camera off....one of these days we'll post a cute video hopefully.

One Month Old

Today Noah is one month old - I can't believe it. In some ways this past month has really flown by...it kind of seems like it's just been one reaaaaaalllllllyyyy long day.

Noah is quickly outgrowing lots of his clothes and was 9 pounds 5 ounces at his last weight check. He had dropped about half a pound in the days right after birth but quickly regained it - he gained a whole pound in a week and is quite the impressive eater. The pediatrician couldn't believe it!
His grandparents are here for a visit and he's enjoyed hanging out with them. I've enjoyed getting to take a nap here and there!

Noah is starting to become more social and loves to smile and "talk".

Here he is talking to Sophie the Giraffe.

He loves looking around and we've discovered that while he's not a huge fan of sitting in his swing, he likes to be near it and watch it rock back and forth and listen to the music it plays.

He's had a rough couple of weeks because of reflux and gas issues. I'm eliminating some things from my diet so hopefully we'll see some improvement soon. He's not great at sleeping on his own and usually only sleeps about 2 hours at a time at night (help!) ... and much less during the day. He prefers to be held while sleeping - he's not a fan of his bed. Can you blame him? Today he was a happier baby and had quite a few play times so maybe he's turning a corner and will start to feel better soon.

He has so many funny expressions - he often looks very serious and skeptical of life. Sameer and I both wore the "furrowed brow" as little ones so this is no surprise.

He loves being held and talked to and he absolutely HATES getting his diaper changed and taking a bath. When he's not worrying, sleeping, crying or eating, he enjoys making the "oooo" shape with his mouth for long periods of time and smiling here and there too.

I have to admit that as tiring as this month has been, I'm sad that it's already over...my baby is now officially an "infant" and no longer a "newborn". These have been precious days. We love our boy!
